So managed to get 3 links here - had to be word it right so it didn't get deleted by the mods, and another one in the r/munich

Anyways I would suggest unlocking your content for a time so people can check it out. Being asked for a credit card before you can even look is a big turn off.

Hi Rob thanks for those posts, I'll sub you an extra week. Obviously you're right that a paywall puts people off, on the other hand i want to give extra value to people who pay. One article a week (on wednesday's) is free so that could be a good one to share

Subscribing to way too many (free and paid) substacks I’ve noticed marketing seems to fall into one of three categories

1) All free with an admonish to subscribe and support the publication and that only paid subscribers can comment.

2) Partially free to read (Bari Weis and Andrew Sullivan do this) works best only very long articles.

3) Free for a limited period, usually a week or only for the past couple of posts.

The worse way to get a subscriber is this way, no one is going to pay to read her response

Most important is to encourage people to subscribe. I subscribe for the simple reason it’s hard news and not geared to the expat market. In other words not just another The Local or 20% Berlin, both which do news but very much geared to the expat market.

Good luck, oh and I love the fact that your posts are short and to the point!
