But what does a historian who specialises in the Nazi era think of such comparisons?
To find out, I spoke to Heike Görtemaker, one of Germany’s most prominent historians of the Nazi dictatorship. Her widely acclaimed biography of Eva Braun was an international bestseller, and her latest book examines the workings of Hitler’s inner court.
