Concerning the anger that rises from putting names and faces on the dead that are assumed to have died from vaccination related illness: that also happens when you put names and faces to those whose deaths have been caused by COVID. The only lesson to be drawn is that emotion is not a good basis for decision-making. I say get off your high moral horse and attempt to relate the very real and difficult dilemmas our leaders are facing. That would be much more interesting.
Hi Mikael, I agree. I think there is very little to criticize about the transparent way in which German health authorities have dealt with the issues surrounding AstraZeneca. I think though that the question of whether a state intervention can take loss of life as the price to be paid to save life elsewhere is an incredibly hard one to answer. While the anti-vaxxer scene is characterized by a vastly inflated belief in the dangers of vaccines, the moral complexity of the current situation means that not all concerns about vaccines should be dismissed out of hand eg questions about choice
Yup, the handling of dilemmas. Never easy, which is why we should temper our criticism accordingly and discuss possibilities and consequences of different choices instead of pointing fingers. I am not a supporter of the SPD, but I think the way Lauterbach is being talked about is shameful.
On a lighter note: on one side it is easy to find a replacement for Joachim Löw because Germany has 80 million Bundestrainer, but then again not so easy because they are all busy being virologists.
