This report in Der Tagesspiegel caught my eye: a study has found that 20 percent of voters who have roots in Turkey or the Middle East said they could imagine voting for the AfD. That’s only slightly below the number (22 percent) of native Germans who said they were thinking of voting for the nationalist party.
Given the AfD’s reputation, that is quite a startling finding. Unfortunately, the article doesn’t quote any Turkish AfD voters, so we can only speculate on the reasons.
One surprising fact that might explain some of this success: the AfD are the only major party that advertise to voters directly in Turkish.
