The CDU are trying to kick the former head of domestic intelligence out of the party after he claimed that a left-wing elite is waging a campaign of “eliminatory” racism against indigenous Germans.
Hans-Georg Maaßen has been told that he has until the weekend to quit the party or he’ll face official proceedings to have him removed.
According to his inner-party critics, Maaßen uses “anti-Semitic codes, trivializes racism and displays openness to right-wing extremism” - all things that are “incompatible with the values of the CDU.”
While Maaßen has caused controversy repeatedly since losing his job as head of the domestic intelligence agency back in 2018, the current furore has been caused by a tweet he wrote earlier this month. In it he claimed that: “the driving forces in the political-media space have as their agenda an eliminatory racism against whites and a burning desire for Germany to perish.”
