Opposition leader Friedrich Merz is in hot water for claiming that Ukrainian refugees are coming to Germany as “welfare tourists.”
Merz, 66, told broadcaster Bild TV that "a large number" of Ukrainian refugees are "now taking advantage of the system". He explained that "we are now experiencing welfare tourism among these refugees - (they travel) to Germany, back to Ukraine, to Germany, back to Ukraine."
