Oktoberfest kicked off for the first time in three years on a rainy Munich weekend, after German authorities put their trust in the public to exercise Eigenverantwortung (personal responsibility) again.
Nowhere else in the world is Eigenverantwortung taken as seriously as in the beer tents of the Wiesn: within two hours of the opening an ambulance team had already scraped the first comatose body off the floor.
